The Butterfly Effect: Freedom in Flight

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31

I was watching a TV show the other day, with my son. On the show one of the characters encountered a bird’s nest.  His father admonished him to leave the young bird alone, and to not touch him.  The son refused to listen, and he watched in shock as the young bird reached the edge of the nest and proceeded to fall. The boy rushed forward and pushed the bird back in its nest. His father chastised him for touching the bird and behold the bird’s father began to swoop down upon them. The baby bird again reached the end of the nest, this time the son was preoccupied with the large father bird coming this way and could not reach out to push the baby bird back. The bird began to fall, the boy screamed out, scared of the outcome, when suddenly, the baby bird took flight. What the boy didn’t realize is that the inner purpose of the bird is built to kick in. The bird is meant to fly.

I know that we are talking about butterflies, but I need you to know that there is freedom in flying. God designed you to fly.  You must recognize your identity. Going through transformation can be a bit of a shock to your system.  2 Corinthians 5;17 states, ‘17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (KJV)

The Breaking of the Cocoon

No matter how much you transform in the cocoon, unless you allow yourself to be broken you never be the Butterfly God has designed.  The cocoon allows for a full body metamorphosis. Your old self is broken down, and everything you have been through, or eaten or believed is used to make up the new you.

I know we think we want to dismiss all the negative things that have ever happened. Every time you were abused, criticized, cast aside or taken advantage of. However, believe me when I tell you it was all nourishment for your wings to form. To me a part of the beauty in transformation is the fact that God uses materials we don’t deem worthy.  He uses the experiences that showed our weaknesses. He uses the broken heart. He uses the bad memories. He uses our faults. Yes, He also uses the things He placed in us from before our birth. He uses the impartations. He uses the gifts. He uses the talents.  He uses it all, and adds His Spirit where we are lacking.  Remember, ‘…His GRACE is SUFFICIENT His strength is made perfect in our weakness … (2 Cor. 12:8&9)’.  God is such an awesome Master builder, that what ever materials He touches, He can create a beautiful work of art.   “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Eph. 2:10)”.  The design of the butterfly’s wing much like our lives were ordained before time. God knew everything that we would go through, everything the caterpillar would eat. What we would digest and how it would effect our worldview.  The breakdown that happens in the cocoon is necessary. Breaking out of the cocoon is just as necessary.

The question that you must ask yourself, ‘Is the Breaking going to Break me?’  Tasha Cobbs Leonard famously sings about being “gracefully broken.” What we must know is that there is grace in the breaking. When the butterfly finally emerges, it does not happen all at once. It, just like it’s transformation itself, is a process. It happens one crack, one push, one moment at a time. It may hurt. The pressure of being a confined space, when your wings want to expand.  The pressure of growth. The pressure to leave and fly away.

I am sure by now you are feeling the pressure.  You think you are ready to spread yours and fly away. You are longing to be FREE…

Is it time? Is it time? Don’t rush the breaking of the cocoon. Don’t think you are ready to fly when you are so close.  So close to ready.

This is the real trick of the cocoon. Not rushing out. There is freedom in submission.  Submit to the timing of the cocoon.  But don’t stay too long. You are designed to fly.

There is Freedom in Flight! I know you want me to tell you that yes, it is your time to come out of the cocoon. I cannot, only God knows your timing. But I can tell you, you are different you will know yourself better than when before your transformation. You will fly. Your wings are beautiful. You are beautiful, handsome, gorgeous and marvelously made by the Master Builder.  Remember this transition may be over or coming to an end. However, your journey will continue and I can’t wait to see you in flight.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
